Eén van de redenen dat wij de prijs voor het beste nieuwe hotel concept hebben gewonnen had te maken met ons selfserviceconcept. Dit concept houdt in dat onze gasten, net als thuis, zelf zorgen voor een hapje en een drankje. Op deze manier wilden wij een huiskamergevoel creëren in ons hotel. In de openingsmaanden gaven de gasten aan dat ze het selfserviceconcept erg waardeerden alleen verwachtten ze wel wat meer hotel service. Daarom zijn wij nu met het nieuwe standaardservice gekomen. Nu kan de gast zelf bepalen welke service hij zou willen hebben, de bestaande selfservice of geholpen worden door de Service manager van Qbic Designhotel die 24 uur per dag tot zijn beschikking staat. Ons servicepakket is erg uitgebreid en bestaat ondermeer uit hulp bij het in- en uitchecken, begeleiding naar de hotelkamer en op een bepaald tijdstip gewekt worden. Dit is ook voor de zakelijke reiziger erg prettig. De service manager wekt de gasten en kan ze wegwijs maken in Amsterdam wat betreft bezienswaardigheden en dergelijke. Des hôtels design à moinsde 80 euros la nuit… Plutôt rare voici quelques années. Signe des temps, ces établissements branchés font désormais fureur en alignant leurs tarifs sur ceux es hôtels classiques. On les trouve à deux pas des aéroports internationaux et en périphérie des centres urbains. A Paris, c’est Serge Trigano qui a créé l’événement en installant un hôtel de luxe, décoré par Starck, au coeur du quartier de la Goutte d’Or dans le 20ème arrondissement. Le premier prix d’une chambre au Mama Shelter débute à partir de 79 euros la nuit. Compte tenu des services roposés par l’hôtel et de son affluence, à Paris, c’est une performance.

Face au succès, ce concept va d’ailleurs s’exporter à Lyon et Marseille. Après les transports aériens, le low cost touche donc l’hôtellerie. Pour quelques centaines d’euros, voilà qu’un week-end tout compris à Lisbonne ou Zurichs’offre à vous. La crise accélère ce processus de baisse des prix dans la plupart des grands hôtels. Le site Splendia propose ainsi des nuits à moins de 100 euros dans des établissements jusqu’à alors inaccessibles à ce tarif. “Cette stratégie consiste à faire face à la récession économique en permettant aux voyageurs de séjourner dans ce type d’hôtel sans se ruiner” avoue la société qui bénéficie à plein du rush de petits malins dénichant à petit prix des chambres dans des hôtels de luxe.

Le design, lui aussi, se mondialise. Les codes urbains deviennent les mêmes à Barcelone et New-York. Là où une table basse d’un designer danois valait dix fois plus, dans les années 80, qu’une table basse de base, l’on trouve aujourd’hui du mobilier signé dans les grandes surfaces… Cet engouement pour la decoration et le design low cost s’incarne par son accessibilité consumériste.

La fin d’un schéma estampillé luxe? Beaucoup de designers profitent en tous cas de cet engouement. Dans une tribune, Gilles Deléris, président de l’Association Design Communication voit même dans la crise un moyen de sortir des sophismes du design : “Penser design, c’est imaginer demain. Moins de matériaux, plus de performance, moins de confusion, plus de clarté, moins de signes, plus de sens.

Le design, depuis Mies Van Der Rohe, défend une esthétique de la raison et de l’économie de moyen qui relève aussi de la responsabilité sociale. Dire que cela est d’actualité est un doux euphémisme”. On veut y croire.
